ARC, partner of EVENFLOW, presented a paper titled How to Make your Duck Fly: Advanced Floating Point Compression to the Rescue at the 27th International Conference on Extending Database Technology (EDBT) in Italy from 24 to 28 of March 2024.

The paper addresses the challenge of handling massive volumes of data across various domains like scientific computing, finance, and environmental monitoring. It introduces two lossless compression algorithms for floating-point data, named Chimp and Patas, which significantly outperform existing approaches, particularly benefiting column-oriented database management systems. The demonstration highlights the impact of these algorithms on DuckDB, an embeddable database for interactive analytics, showcasing reduced storage requirements and improved query performance.
